True confession: in my opinion I'm not terribly good at making backgrounds. I want them to be semi abstract yet semi realistic, interesting to look at and yet not overwhelming the object of the painting. That is a pretty tall order!

Which is one of the reasons I started playing with acrylic gel pad printing. Now I'm at a stage where I'm looking at a gel print and ungrammatically asking myself, "What could this be the background for?"

This one (and the other one in this series of two) started with a nice multi layered background. then I added another layer with colorful dots that I envisioned as the centers of some Daisy type flowers. But I overestimated the amount of paint that would be appropriate for each dot! In the end each.had to become a full flower. I added the stems and leaves with acrylic paint and some details with ink.

My background in the uncontrollability of watercolor painting has been very useful in adjusting my attitude when an acrylic painting goes off in a direction that I did not expect!
