I’ve been experimenting with glazing (layers of watercolor) and negative painting (painting the background to define an object instead of painting the object itself.) This is a favorite, with layers of randomly applied masque (think rubber cement) between the layers of color. When it was all dry, I carefully rubbed off the masque to reveal the white paper and early color layers. I immediately started seeing flowers and grabbed my micron pen so that I could encourage them to come out of the softly abstract background.
