Claret Cup Cactus are named after the shape of their blossoms, but they are also called Strawberry Cactus for the brilliant color of those same blossoms. They are hard to find when not in bloom, because the cactus is low and spread out. I mentally map them when in full bloom so that the next year I can be looking in the right places for the beginning of their blooming season. My father-in-law is really nice about interrupting his pasture tasks for me to stop and take photos of them.
